Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

The evil Empire has fallen. But the celebration was short-lived. Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy, hiding in the shadows — and the fledgling New Republic is scrambling to hold everything the Rebellion fought and died for together. Enter Din Djarin — the Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal. After the events of the Disney+ series' third season, Din has formally adopted Grogu, who now carries the name Din Grogu, a true foundling accepted into Mandalorian lore. They have settled into a life together on Nevarro. A family. Official. Real. But peace, for a man like Din Djarin, never lasts long. Mando and Grogu are still working as bounty hunters, their ties to the New Republic stronger than ever. And right now, the New Republic needs them badly. Mando's primary New Republic contact is Colonel Ward — played by a commanding Sigourney Weaver — a seasoned veteran of the Rebellion, now doing everything she can to prevent the chaos of the Imperial era from returning. Her team is actively hunting down former Imperial officers still running rampant across the Outer Rim. The film opens with Mando and Grogu already mid-mission, chasing down an Imperial warlord. But the target's craft crashes and explodes before Din can take him alive, while Zeb Orrelios pulls the duo to safety. Mission failed. Colonel Ward is not pleased — but she already has another job lined up. Ward's team is tracking a ghost — an elusive Imperial officer known only as Commander Coin, believed by many to be dead, so mysterious that no one even knows what he looks like. The only lead? The Hutt Twins — cold, calculating crime lords first glimpsed in The Book of Boba Fett — who claim to have information on Coin's whereabouts. The deal is simple and ugly: the Hutt Twins will reveal Coin's location, but only if Mando rescues their nephew, Rotta the Hutt, from an underground fighting ring on a moon called Shakari. Rotta has been kidnapped and forced to fight for an arms dealer named Lord Janu. Mando is reluctant to work for gangsters. But Ward insists — this is the price of the intel. So Din heads off in a brand-new Razor Crest, gifted by Ward herself. The old ship never truly dies. Din and Grogu arrive at Shakari and confront Lord Janu. But things go sideways fast. Din is captured and thrown into the fighting ring himself, forced to battle against the very Hutt he came to rescue. Picture it: a Mandalorian in beskar armor, facing off in a gladiatorial pit against a young Hutt. The crowd roars. And little Grogu watches from the shadows, his enormous eyes tracking every move his father makes. Din tells Rotta he works for the New Republic — not the Twins. That changes everything. Rotta reveals the truth: the Twins are playing both sides to maximize profit, and they actually want Rotta eliminated, since he is the legitimate heir to Jabba's throne and a threat to their power. Then Rotta drops the bombshell — Commander Coin and Lord Janu are the same person. The arms dealer running the death matches is the ghost the New Republic has been hunting for months. Armed with this intelligence, Zeb and Mando move fast — capturing Janu and hauling him straight back to Colonel Ward at Adelphi Base. Mission accomplished. Or so they think. After delivering Janu to Adelphi Base, Mando believes the job is done. He and Grogu head back to Nevarro. Home. But they are barely through the door before trouble finds them. Colonel Ward had warned Din: the Hutt Twins would seek revenge. And she was right. The Twins dispatch their hired gun — Embo, one of the deadliest bounty hunters in the galaxy, a fan-favorite from The Clone Wars animated series, complete with his iconic wide-brimmed hat and a fierce new anooba companion named Keibu. He is not someone you want knocking on your door. Din is captured and taken across the stars to Nal Hutta — the soggy, swamp-covered homeworld of the Hutts — where he is forced to fight a giant serpent-like monster beneath the throne of the Hutt Twins. Alone in the dark, in a pit that smells like death, Din battles the creature with everything he has. As the film moves toward its climax, Din is poisoned and nearly dies while Grogu desperately protects him inside the swamps of Nal Hutta. This is the moment the entire movie has been building to. The father nearly falls. And the child — this tiny, ancient, Force-sensitive creature who has crossed galaxies, survived Jedi training, faced Dark Troopers and Imperial purges — reaches deep into the Force and saves his father at the literal last second. The bond between them holds. The Clan of Two endures. Mando and Grogu stage a daring rescue into the Hutt Twins' stronghold — a towering fungal fortress heavily guarded by the Droid Gotra, an army of combat droids loyal to the Hutt crime empire. They battle through massive guard droids, then face off against Embo himself. After Djarin frees Rotta, the young Hutt makes a decision that surprises everyone: he joins the fight, standing against his own relatives. The battle shakes the palace. The weight of the conflict causes the trap door in the throne room floor to crumble — and the Hutt Twins go careening down into the lair of their own deadly pet: the Dragon Snake. Both Twins are devoured. Swallowed whole by the monster they kept as a weapon. There is a brutal, dark poetry in that. Embo, ever the professional, had made his strategic exit before his bosses met their fate. He lives to fight another day. But the Droid Gotra isn't finished. With the Twins gone, escape still seems impossible. Then — the cavalry arrives. Led by Colonel Ward herself, Blue Squadron screams through the atmosphere — X-wings locking onto the Hutt stronghold. Din Djarin, surrounded and outgunned, does something borderline insane: he instructs the Adelphi Rangers to fire directly on his own position. Blue Squadron unloads round after round of proton torpedoes into the Twins' palace — completely obliterating the fungal fortress. Familiar faces appear in the cockpits: Carson Teva, Jib Dodger, Lieutenant Reed, and Trapper Wolf — the beloved pilots of the Adelphi Rangers. Before the structure collapses, Din, Grogu, and Rotta escape by diving into the waters below, where Zeb Orrelios swoops in with his U-Wing and pulls them from the wreckage. The Hutt palace is gone. Ash and smoke where a criminal empire once stood. The Hutt Syndicate — which ruled the galaxy's underworld for thousands of years — has finally collapsed. Jabba is dead. The Twins are gone. And Rotta has absolutely no interest in rebuilding his father's criminal empire after everything he has witnessed and survived. Instead, Rotta chooses a different path. Zeb Orrelios offers him a New Republic uniform and welcomes him aboard Adelphi Base. The son of the most feared crime lord in the galaxy, choosing to become something better. It is, quietly, one of the most significant moments in the post-Empire Star Wars timeline. After returning to Adelphi, Mando and Grogu bid farewell to their new comrade-in-arms. Mando shares parting words with Colonel Ward — two soldiers who understand the cost of what they do. And then the Clan of Two heads home. Together. Alive. As always. But the galaxy still turns. Somewhere out in the dark, the Imperial Remnant stirs. Grand Admiral Thrawn's machinations continue in the shadows — a threat not resolved, only deferred. The story of Din Djarin and Din Grogu is far from finished.
