Pixar Elio Bloopers Return After 21 Years | Full Details

Pixar Elio Bloopers Return After 21 Years | Full Details

Pixar is bringing back a beloved tradition fans haven’t seen since The Incredibles in 2004 — animated blooper reels.

With the highly anticipated release of its 29th feature-length film, Elio, just days away, Pixar has confirmed the return of its iconic outtakes. This marks the first time in over two decades that the studio has included a blooper reel with one of its animated films — a tradition last prominently seen during the credits of Monsters, Inc. in 2001.

For longtime Pixar fans, this is a major throwback. The studio’s first five feature films — from Toy Story (1995) through The Incredibles (2004) — featured playful animated bloopers that mimicked the funny outtakes seen in live-action films. These clips showcased characters forgetting lines, props falling apart, and moments of pure comic timing that added an extra layer of charm to the movies.

While The Incredibles did have bloopers, they were only included on the film’s special edition DVD, not shown during the credits in theaters. After that, the tradition quietly faded away, leaving fans wondering if they’d ever return.

That wait is finally over. According to Discussing Film, the upcoming movie Elio includes a brand-new animated blooper reel featuring funny on-set “mistakes.” Highlights include a lighting rig falling near one of the film’s alien characters, actors calling for their lines, and the main character Elio winking directly at the audience.

Whether these bloopers will be shown during the end credits or reserved for online platforms or home releases remains to be seen. Still, the very existence of the reel has fans buzzing with excitement and nostalgia.

Elio tells the story of a young boy who is mistakenly abducted by aliens and declared Earth’s official ambassador to the galaxy. Thrust into a cosmic adventure, Elio must navigate alien cultures, form unlikely friendships, and ultimately find a sense of belonging far from home.

Directed by Domee Shi (Turning Red), Madeline Sharafian, and Adrian Molina (Coco), the film features Yonas Kibreab as the voice of Elio Solis. It stands out as one of Pixar’s few original stories in recent years.

With Elio rekindling Pixar’s tradition of animated outtakes, fans are now wondering whether future films will follow suit. Given how much audiences enjoyed them in the early 2000s, their return could mark a new era of fun and nostalgia for the studio.

For now, fans can look forward to watching Elio when it hits theaters on Friday, June 20 — and maybe stick around through the credits, just in case those long-missed bloopers make a big-screen comeback[wide].
